ESSA-Certified, Evidence-Based
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is a law governing public education policy, which emphasizes the use of evidence-based interventions. ESSA provides a framework for schools to select evidence-based programs by providing tiers of evidence, ranging from 1 (strongest) to 4, for curricula and intervention programs. This allows schools to select programs with confidence, knowing they are research-backed and effective.
Study at a Glance
Lexercise is proud to hold both ESSA Tier 3 and Tier 4 certifications. To earn ESSA Tier 3, a program must have a well-designed correlational study that demonstrates a statistically significant and positive effect on student outcomes.

Lexercise Platform
Lexercise is a structured literacy intervention platform, designed to combine weekly structured literacy lessons with high-dosage, independent student practice, and progress monitoring.
The Lexercise Structured Literacy Curriculum™ includes 44 lessons, each consisting of seven stations covering: phonemic awareness & phonics, orthography, morphology, semantics, syntax, comprehension, and written expression.
In between lessons, students complete independent, 15-minute practice sessions. Integrated into each practice session is a 10-item decoding challenge. Practice data provides information on student mastery so instructors can make informed decisions about moving students forward in the program.

Program implementation
The Lexercise study consisted of 198 students in grades 2-6 receiving private reading intervention with a literacy expert through Lexercise.
The study period was from August 2023 to June 2024, with a minimum of three months of intervention required for study participation. Students completed weekly lessons and independent student practice as part of the program with the recommendation being 1 weekly lesson and 4 days of independent student practice per week. The study examined Lexercise lesson level completion and performance on a decoding assessment, as well as student use of the program.

The Results
Descriptive analysis showed that students demonstrated a strong adherence to the intervention program, completing 3-4 independent practice sessions per week and 3-4 Lexercise lessons per month. Analyses revealed a strong positive correlation between the total time spent using the program and number of decoding levels mastered. Additionally, linear regression analysis revealed that the total hours of Lexercise use significantly predicted decoding mastery, indicating that consistent use of the program was associated with a positive impact on student decoding.
